Kidz n Cats Pajamas

I made some pajamas for my Kidz n Cats doll!  They are more cold weather pajamas, so they will mostly be put away until fall.IMG_2650

I used fabric from a regular pajama top.  For the doll top, I used the free Pixie Faire t-shirt pattern for Kidz dolls.  I lengthened the short sleeves included in the pattern.  I also added ribbing to the end.IMG_2649

I used another Pixie Faire pattern (the basic pants pattern) for the pj bottoms.  I altered the pattern to be leggings for an American Girl Doll, then I changed that alteration to fit my Kidz doll.IMG_2656 IMG_2660

Graphic Tees for AG Dolls: Mickey, Charlie Brown and Toy Story

I decided I would shoot pictures of and post some graphic tees that I haven’t blogged about yet!

DSCN3056The first is this Charlie Brown raglan t-shirt upcycled from a regular long sleeve t-shirt.  I used the Pixie Faire Baseball Tee pattern which I got for free on a previous Freebie Friday.  It’s Freebie Friday today over at Pixie Faire, and the free pattern today is the Schoolgirl Dress by Melody Valerie Couture.  I thought using the baseball t-shirt pattern would go well with the fact that Charlie Brown (on the shirt) is wearing his baseball cap.

It was my first time using this pattern, and I believe it would be better made with a stretchier knit fabric.  Some areas of the tee are a little tight.

One of the great things about upcycling old t-shirts is the graphics printed onto the fabric!  I enjoy reusing graphics on human t-shirts to give my dolls something fun to wear.  This Mickey t-shirt is one such project!  The pattern I used was the free Pixie Faire Trendy T-shirt pattern.

This Toy Story t-shirt is also upcycled.  I made it from the same human shirt as this Buzz Lightyear Tee I posted previously.  I used this pattern from Simply Sweet and Sewn.  This t-shirt goes together a little easier than the Pixie Faire tee, because the sleeves and the main pieces are already attached instead of cut separately.5 The longer sleeved t-shirt can be worn by a boy too!1

18inch Boy Doll Vacation T-Shirt

I wanted to make a t-shirt that would fit a boy doll today.  Boy dolls can fit in girl t-shirts, but they are form fitting and it doesn’t look very boyish.  I took this free pattern, and made some changes to it!  I lengthened the sleeves, and changed the pieces of the top to go straight, not curve with the cloth body.  I also changed the sleeve piece to allow for a baggier sleeve.

This shirt is up-cycled and pressed to get any wrinkles out.

Kidz n Cats Doll Blue Dress

This dress was made from an altered version of this dress pattern for free here.  It is designed as a one-strap dress, but to make a two sleeved version of it, I cut the fabric on a fold with the center of the pattern on the fold, so when I am done I have two straps!  I didn’t use a pattern for the skirt.  For some reason almost every time I make a dress for my Kidz n Cats doll, I don’t have enough fabric to make the skirt as long as I would like.  I was already planning on overlaying the plain cornflower blue cotton with the blue chiffon.  When I realized the cotton would be shorter than planned, I made the chiffon overlay longer to make the dress more appropriate.  The result isn’t quite ideal, but that’s okay.  Both fabrics I got from the remnant section of the fabric stores I shop at.  The bodice is self-lined with white cotton.  Also, this shade of blue isn’t exactly an Easter blue, but it matches her eyes well.

Now all three of my girl dolls have Easter dresses.  Planning ahead!

I did a sepia effect on accident for this one and kept it 🙂

American Girl Mint Tank

This tank I made using this Strappy Tank pattern and an old t-shirt.  This is a Liberty Jane pattern, but is unavailable on the Pixie Faire marketplace.  The sweatpants are featured in this post.

Kidz ‘n Cats Hooded Tee

The cold air continues to remind me that it’s winter, and I should be making warm clothes for my dolls.  In light of that, I tried out a specific pattern from JenWrenne.  The pattern is free and can be downloaded here.  The link to the PDF is about halfway down.  The file is called “Mix and Match Week 2”.

It was simple to put together.  The back closes with Velcro, and there is a small hole in the hood making it is easier to get the head in when unVelcroed.  I found this interesting.  My Kidz Sophie doll has a lot of hair, making it kind of weird to be wearing a hood with tons of hair coming out the side.  I realized that if I put her hair in a low pony, it could slip through the hole and everything would be normal!  I don’t think I have a picture of this though.

I made the white and grey fingerless gloves using this tutorial.  I used adult sized mittens.  The raw edges of where I cut are threatening to fray, so I handle these gently.

It’s Freebie Friday today over at Pixie Faire, so head on over to get a free Slouch Ankle Boot pattern for American Girl Doll (usually $3.99).

American Girl Doll Dance/Gymnastics Outfits

Both Dolls (1)

Both Dolls (2)

Both Dolls (3)

Yesterday, Thanksgiving, I whipped up some leotards and shorts in some new fabric I bought from JoAnns.  I had two colors, so made two leotards in each color, as well as two shorts in each color.  Both outfits are for my American Girl Doll, but I put the turquoise on my Kidz doll for the sake of photography.  It is obviously not made for her, as it is quite loose.  These outfits could also be used as swimsuits, however, my dolls don’t swim yet 🙂

I used the pattern for the leotard found here.  You may notice I used Velcro on the back.  I realized afterwards I didn’t really need to do this because the fabric is so stretchy.  I believe it still makes it easier to put on though.  I also just hemmed all the edges, the tutorial requires using fold over elastic.

The boy cut shorts are the Liberty Jane pattern from here.

AG and Kidz Doll Christmas Pajamas

IMG_0602.JPG

It’s getting into the 20°F’s here, so it’s time for warm flannel snowflake pajamas!  I bought 1/4 yard of this fabric at Jo-Ann.  I had wanted to make pajama pants for my AG doll, and a nightgown for my Kidz doll out of the same fabric.  Unfortunately, while cutting the pattern pieces I realized I wouldn’t have enough fabric to do this.  The nightgown ended up being a shirt instead, but I had some white leggings on hand, so it turned out great anyway!
IMG_0601.JPG

For the Kidz outfit, I made a flannel long-sleeve top, white knit leggings, and a skinny headband out of the fabrics scraps.  The top I based with this pattern.  I cut it about 2 1/2 inches shorter, which made it go until about 3/4 of an inch below the armpit.  There, I gathered a rectangle and attached it to the upper top.  I top stitched this, because I added top stitched hong kong finish to the sleeves and neck, mostly to lengthen the edges a little.  The jammie top attaches in the back with 2 snaps.  I have been working on improving my skills and this top has all finished edges except for the sleeve and neck hong kong has one raw edge each.

IMG_0581.JPG

The headband was very simple, I didn’t measure or anything for it.  I took a scrap and folded over the edges and stitched on each side, and then added a little elastic.  I don’t like headbands for my dolls to be super tight, so I made this one loose.  Looser is better than tighter, I think, because it goes on and off easily, and doesn’t crease the hair.

IMG_0582.JPGThe leggings are featured in this outfit.

IMG_0600.JPG

For the American Girl Doll pajama outfit, I used a plain white tank top that I had on hand.  The tank top was made from this pattern.

IMG_0587.JPG

The little bow is made from extra fabric scraps.  I hot glued it, and then hot glued it to an alligator clip.  This bow I learned to make here.  It’s down the page a bit.

IMG_0585.JPG

The pants are from this pattern bundle, which is $5.99.  I got it for free on Freebie Friday!  If you haven’t checked out Pixie Faire’s Freebie Friday, you definitely should.  Every Friday, a vote takes place to determine which of four chosen patterns will be available to download for free.  Today is Friday!  Go to Pixie Faire and get the free pattern for today!  Even if the pattern isn’t something I interested in at the moment, I always download it.  I never know what I may want to sew in the future!

Which do you like better, the Kidz or AG pajama outfit?

Doll Disneyland Tees :)

IMG_0824

I have been to Disneyland numerous times, therefore have a number of Disneyland clothing items.  I thought it only fitting that my dolls would have their own Disneyland t-shirts 🙂

For the Kidz n Cats shirt I used this pattern for a dress, and raised the hemline about an inch in the front and back.  I added sleeves from the AG pattern from Liberty Jane.  Luckily, the sleeves can be added without any altering!  The cute little pictures I found on Google Images.

The pants in this outfit are part of Kidz n Cats Sophie’s original outfit, and the shoes are AG Just Like You from a few years ago.  Since the shoes are AG they are a little tight.

The American Girl Doll Disneyland t-shirt I made with this pattern.  This is the classic Disneyland logo, while the Kidz shirt is more modern, I think, because it also includes the California Adventure Grizzly Bear.

The pink ruffle skirt I made using a tutorial.  I actually made it a few months ago, here is a good tutorial for making one.

American Girl Doll Pajamas

IMG_0481.JPG

After receiving some new sewing supplies for my birthday this past week, I immediately had to try them out!  I had been looking at the American Girl Doll website for some sewing ideas, and this pajama outfit is based on this one:

Obviously, mine has many different aspects, but this was the inspiration 🙂  I still like style of the pajamas above, so I may try another time and create them as close to this as I can.  I also have an idea for a pajama outfit for my Kidz n Cats doll!  So many ideas!

For the top I used this pattern tutorial and added the lace sleeves from this pattern.  The leggings are the free leggings pattern from SewAdollable.com.

All made out of an up-cycled nightgown!
