A Poem: A Girl in the Forest

A GIRL IN THE FOREST

By Victoria L. Smith

A girl walks along the forest edge

The new fallen leaves crunch beneath her feet

A stream runs near her

Bubbling over the rocks and stones

In the waters path

The trees are bent

From pounds of snow

And winds that blow

The soft green forest ground

Is covered with hard brown leaves

The girl’s nose is red

And her feet are bare

She wears old torn clothes

And not a glove or sock

Yet she is happy

She is home among the animals of the wood
